ÄKTA ready™ Chromatography System SCS
The ÄKTA ready™ chromatography system has been redesigned as the SCS (standard configuration system) platform to meet current and future needs for batch manufacturing and intensified processing. SCS systems retain the benefits of single-use processing, with one-piece disposable flow paths that allow quick changeover and reduce the risk of carryover, while eliminating the need for cleaning between runs. The next-generation system is designed to improve usability for operators of all skill levels and to remove friction in your manufacturing process.
Engineered to be standard yet configurable
The new SCS platform offers more capabilities off-the-shelf for batch processing with options for process intensification. You can easily add the accessories or flow kit needed for a twin-column setup, inline dilution, or normal flow filtration.
The gradient model will launch in early 2027, with additional models and options to come. The SCS platform will replace the current ÄKTA ready systems.
Enhance performance while protecting operators
Every improvement in the hardware comes from user feedback.
The single-use pump has an innovative design that installs without tools and can be primed quickly, so you’re ready to go. A no-drip disconnect protects operators when removing flow kits, so there are no spills in the cleanroom area. This is a safety benefit when working with antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) or other sensitive compounds or solvents.
Every valve and sensor was evaluated and improved for performance. The new column valve supports up- and down-flow. An isolation valve on the inlets limits cross-mixing of solutions from different inlet lines. A cable used for some of the flow kit electronics is now built into the cabinet, which reduces electronic use and waste over the system’s lifetime. Air sensors and pressure sensors help protect the column.
Versatility and broad process compatibility
Fully closed, configurable one-piece flow kits have features and chemical compatibility to meet diverse process needs – from mAbs to viral vectors, ADCs, and more.
Powered by UNICORN™ control software version 8
The new systems will be powered by the newest generation of UNICORN™ control software, version 8, which brings more support for data handling, cybersecurity, and automation. You can import flow kit batch record data flawlessly every time. And share data via the new API plug-in for data handling. Also, you can integrate to DSC automation platforms in hours not weeks using the new module type package (MTP) extension for “plug-and-produce” connectivity.
Designed to boost operator confidence and usability
Execution is guided by the software to seamlessly import the batch record each time— regardless of skill level—using a 2D barcode on the flow kit. An ergonomic design minimizes manual interventions.
The system will support flow kits in two sizes – 1/4 inch (1-200 L/h) and 3/8 inch (3-600 L/h). One person can install the flow kit in less than 10 minutes, guided by LEDs on the cabinet and an interactive installation process in the software.
Built to enhance sustainability
SCS systems are built using 25% less metal and 50% fewer welds compared with previous models. They’re produced in our Umeå site, a green-certified facility run with 100% renewables.
The flow kits have been designed for easier assembly and will be produced in our Duncan (US) site with additional capacity at our Hoegaarden (EU) site for supply chain reliability to meet your delivery requirements.
