Coatings for cell culture surfaces are an important factor in maintaining the health and pluripotent properties of stem cells. Different types of stem cells require specific coatings to replicate their natural microenvironment. Corning offers a range of coatings to meet the needs of different stem cell types. While Matrigel is effective, there is a growing demand for animal-free alternatives. In response to this need, Corning offers Xeno-free and fully synthetic coatings for stem cell culture. The use of animal-free coatings can simplify the regulatory process for cell-based therapies, but feasibility and cost considerations should be evaluated. Corning acknowledges that using animal-free substrates may not always be practical or cost-effective and suggests conducting optimization and testing processes to determine feasibility.
