T cell immunotherapies have moved from early-stage curiosity to a mainstream oncology category in under a decade, and the numbers behind that shift are worth understanding. As of early 2025, 16 therapies have received global approval, with CAR-T constructs accounting for 13 of those. The global pipeline now exceeds 1,700 active programs, and CAR-T approaches represent roughly 73% of all active products. CD19 remains the dominant target antigen, with 373 active programs, followed by BCMA with approximately 141. Patent filings peaked at 646 applications in 2021 before declining around 61% through 2024, a pattern that likely reflects IP landscape maturation rather than waning scientific interest.

On the commercial side, the global market is forecast to reach approximately $30 billion in annual sales by 2030, representing a roughly seven-fold increase from 2023 levels. An estimated 44 new products are projected to launch commercially over the next five years, with a peak of 18 launches anticipated in 2027. Emerging areas include allogeneic off-the-shelf approaches, TCR-engineered therapies in solid tumors, and gamma-delta T cell platforms currently in Phase I.
