Uncovering The Potential Of Exosomes
By Davide Zocco, Associate Director of R&D, Cell and Gene Technologies

Exosomes are drawing serious attention as both therapeutic agents and delivery vehicles, with pre-clinical studies showing potent effects and early clinical data pointing to encouraging safety and efficacy. Yet no commercial exosome-based product exists. The gap comes down to two unresolved questions: whether exosomes demonstrate a therapeutic benefit over other modalities such as LNPs, and how to produce enough drug substance at scale. Because exosomes are products of cells, isolating a specific subpopulation is difficult, and changes in cellular phenotype during technology transfer can alter composition and function. Lonza's CDMO buildout, from bioreactor scale to single exosome analytics, is aimed at both questions. Explore how the capacity is taking shape.
