In recent years, cell and gene therapies have transitioned from experimental treatments to a thriving global industry. As of May 2021, there were over 500 gene therapies in clinical trials, with nearly 2,000 more in development. Additionally, the number of non-genetically modified cell therapies and RNA therapies under development was substantial.

Given the rapid growth of this field, professionals working in big pharma, small biotechs, or academic institutions face unique challenges and opportunities. To better understand these, we gathered insights from the Lonza European Cell and Gene Therapy Workshop 2021. International experts shared their perspectives on the most pressing issues and potential future directions for cell and gene therapy.
