Next-Generation Cell Therapy: Eliminating Thermal Shock In Electroporation

The physics of heat dissipation plays a surprisingly critical role in the success of cell therapy manufacturing. In standard electroporation systems using cuvettes, the relatively low surface-area-to-volume ratio means heat generated by electric pulses cannot escape quickly, causing harmful thermal shock. FEMTOBIOMED recognized this fundamental physical constraint and engineered a solution inspired by microscale physics – similar to how shrinking affects heat exchange in nature (and fiction!).

The CellShot® platform uses Partitioned Flow Electroporation (PFEP™) within ultra-thin microfluidic channels. This design dramatically increases the surface-area-to-volume ratio, allowing heat to dissipate almost instantaneously, thereby protecting cells completely from thermal stress. Delve into the smart physics behind this innovative electroporation method. Access the full article to learn more.
