Cryoport Systems is making significant progress since the last update on launching our Global BioServices in Houston, Texas and Morris Plains, New Jersey. These two prime locations were chosen carefully and strategically, providing infrastructure and support for the demand of increased clinical trials and commercialization of new advanced therapies in the United States. If you missed our previous blog highlighting our new Houston facility, you can check out that piece here.

In this feature, we shall focus on our new Morris Plains facility. Situated in the heart of New Jersey, the new Cryoport Systems facility is surrounded by many of the biggest names in the Biopharma industry. In fact, 13 of the top 20 pharmaceutical companies are based in New Jersey and in total there over 3,000 life science companies that call New Jersey home. There are nearly 12,000 active clinical trials in the State and, in 2020, New Jersey was home to companies that represent 39% of all FDA drug approvals. New Jersey is a strategic East Coast location with some of the best logistics infrastructure in the Country, offering daily non-stop flights to over 340 domestic and 260 international destinations. In addition, New Jersey is home to the highest concentration of scientists and engineers per square mile than anywhere in the United States1.

Our new facility is situated in the north of the State – approximately 35 miles northwest of New York. Cryoport Systems' state-of-the-art facility will implement the latest technologies and employ experienced staff to provide the highest quality and compliant services for the support of clinical and commercial advanced therapy programs. The building covers approximately 45,000 square feet and will house cutting-edge equipment, systems, and processes to ensure GMP-compliant storage and fulfilment of critical materials.

In addition, our sister company, CRYOPDP, will have operations housed in the same building, further enhancing our comprehensive logistics capabilities. CRYOPDP is a leading global provider of temperature-controlled logistics solutions to the clinical research, pharmaceutical and advanced therapy markets. Also, CRYOPDP provides significant complementary synergies with Cryoport Systems from a service and product support standpoint. Cryoport Systems and CRYOPDP offer integrated and flexible end-to-end solutions that provide full supply chain transparency and traceability by systematically addressing the challenges unique to advanced therapy logistics.

Work is continuing to progress well at both Morris Plains and Houston Global Supply Chain Centers, and we are currently on track to complete construction of both state-of-the art facilities by the end of year. Cryoport Systems will be audit-ready soon afterwards. Both locations will initially provide GMP-compliant storage, followed soon after by secondary packaging, labeling and kitting services.

While we are working towards the opening of these facilities, we are also exploring other potential locations for additional Global Supply Chain Centers in the near future. Stay tuned for our next BioServices update where we will provide more information on our new BioServices operations.
