Vaccines that use protein subunits or recombinant vectors are now the most common types of vaccines in development for infectious diseases and cancer, as they are relatively easy to produce and can be tailored to target specific antigens. Other types of vaccines, such as inactivated organisms, toxoids, conjugates, and genetic vaccines (mRNA, DNA), are also available, but each has its own unique development and manufacturing requirements.
