Embedded AI Is The Future Of Biopharmaceutical Recipe Creation

An MES and a DCS are built and run very differently. A DCS often leans on predetermined control logic, while an MES encodes the workflows and rules of each organization. Experienced engineers are harder to find for both, so recipe creation has to take less manual effort. Most AI recipe tools were designed for simple MES environments and small-scale R&D. They struggle once a program moves to large-scale manufacturing under full GMP. Emerson's Kristel Biehler, writing in Control Engineering, argues that AI built into the automation architecture scales further than AI added on top. Embedded tools can draw on decades of institutional knowledge and on data that external software cannot reach. See how her case holds up.
